Should you optimise your website for the search engines?
These days most people use search engines to do a look up for information. Before the internet was so popular people would look in local telephone directories, newspapers and local advertising to find information about companies that offered the service or product that they were looking for. Today a lot of people will look on the internet even though the same old resources are available.
To be found in the search engines for your product or service is a good way to advertise and it also helps to legitimise your business. By this I mean that if a prospective customer was to be looking for your service and saw your advert in the newspaper and then did a search on the internet and found your business it would help solidify their thoughts about your company and its existence.
Consideration should be taken into account for your marketing strategy. Do you want to be seen by others? Most companies answer to this would be yes. A website can be good for advertising and marketing.
It is fair to say that most people would not travel beyond the first 2-3 pages of a search they would put into a search engine. The idea of this is obvious, which is to get visitors to your website that would be interested in your service or product. Without optimisation means that the website would need to advertised else where.
Your website can be an effective marketing tool if used correctly. It should be informative about the products and services that you offer. It should also be directed at your target market.
